Rule 1. First and foremost, strictly NON-YAOI!
Rule 2. This is a Gundam Wing Fan Fiction page. Therefore, your fan art and/or fan
fiction must be related to Gundam Wing.
Rule 3. Before you submit a fan fic, please run your story through a spell checker.
It's very easy to do! Most word processors come with one.
This way you
make life much easier on me and your readers. Perhaps it's
just me, but spelling errors drive me NUTS! I guarantee that a correctly
spelled story will (9 times out of 10) be much more popular than one that
is not.
Of course,
correct grammar helps! If you can, try to get someone with good grammar
to proofread your story. If you can't, *shrugs* don't worry about
it. I won't make you run your fan fic through a grammar checker,
too. :) In my opinion, grammar checkers suck.
However, you
need to punctuate AND you need to capitalize correctly! It may sound
silly, but I've actually received submissions without any punctuation and
without any use of capitalization! *cringe*
If you submit
something without punctuation, without capitalizations, and with every
other word misspelled, I will reject it.
Rule 4. A note regarding format:
Actually this
is more like several notes regarding format.
Sometimes when
a story is emailed to me, it's format is completely screwed up. FYI,
proper formating enhances the readablity of fanfics. It makes reading
your stories much more pleasant. Perhaps it's just me, but
when I get a fanfic that consists of one long paragraph - one long 10
page paragraph - I'm tempted to delete it. Why? Simply
because it would be too much of an effort to read.
In the past,
to make the stories more presentable and more aesthetically pleasing to
all our readers, I reserved the right to re-format the stories as I saw
fit. But that was back when the non-yaoi Gundam Wing fandom was small
and I only received an average of 10 submissions a week. I don't
have time for that anymore - especially not now that I'm working.
Sometimes I can receive more than 10 submissions a day! The non-yaoi
Gundam Wing fandom has grown considerably since the begining.
Therefore,
the responsibilty of GOOD formating now falls to you, the author. Your
fanfic must have decent formatting.
What is decent
formatting? Proper separation of paragraphs. Liberal use of
indentation and white space. In other words, start a new paragraph
everytime there is a new speaker. Start a new paragraph everytime
you switch main ideas.
What is BAD
formatting? A paragraph that's 10 pages long. No separation
between speakers. In other words, don't do this:
"Hi,
Duo!" "What's up?" "Nothing," he replied glumly. "Is something wrong?"
"Nope." That gloomy voice was so uncharacteristic of him! "We
should take him to see the doctor," whispered Quatre. "..." said Trowa.
"Idiot."
Try reading
ten
pages of a fic like that! It's not fun. I know.
Heck!
After editing 10 pages of a fanfic like that, I begin to sympathize
with postal workers!
If you submit
something without any semblance of formatting. I will reject
it. If you don't like it, email me.
Rule 5. Acceptable file types:
Here are the acceptable file types (or file formats) and file sizes that I will take.
- For doujinshi and fanart submissions: JPEG and GIF only!
Other image types are just too big (like BMP) or need to be converted (like the one fanart that came to me in as Microsoft Publisher file - that was a pain to do, considering that I didn't even have Publisher then).
- For poems, songfics, and fanfics: Plain text or HTML only!
In other words, I will take *.txt, *.html, and *.htm files.
In the past, I've accepted just about any format for fan fiction.
Unfortunately, I don't have the time to convert files into HTML any more.
So you can send me your fanfic already in HTML - prefered.
OR - for those of you who don't know HTML, you can send me your fanfic in plain text.
Do not send me Word documents anymore!
-
There is a maximum file size restriction!
- For fanart and doujinshi the maximum file size is 250 KB.
- For poems, fanart, and fanfic the maximum file size is 75 KB.
This should be enough for most people. If you have a long fanfic, I'm sure you can chop it up into chapters, right? If you have a large file that you just can't chop up, email me and we'll work something out.
Why?
That's the way my script works.
Oh! You want to know why I've imposed a size restriction?
Since I'm not going to be monitoring the submissions as closely as I have in the past, and I really don't want to run out of disk space, I thought this was a good idea.
It shouldn't be a problem for most people. Most of you never send me anything over 50 KB anyways! Besides, who would even want to download enormous files?
(I'm thinking of those poor people who still use modems, you guys.)
